With Gonzalo Cortes on Andean panpipes, the Alturas Duo becomes The Elkey Trio [Scott, Hill, guitar, Carlos Boltes, viola and charango, and Gonzalo Cortes, Andean panpipes]. The Elkey Trio is equally at home performing both classical and South American folk music with a repertoire ranging from Baroque and newly commissioned pieces to folk music learned in South America by oral tradition. In addition to folk music from Chile, Peru, and Venezuela including Heraclio Fernández’ El diablo suelto and the traditional Peruvian Christmas carol, Diosllai Runa, The Elkey Trio program for the Artist Series Concerts is to include:
Leo Brouwer --- Paisajes, Retratos y Mujeres(Landscapes, Portraits and Women)
Sérgio Assad --- Winter Impressions
Raimundo Penaforte --- “Interlúdio” from Quartetice
Ariel Ramirez --- Alfonsina y el mar
The Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota was conceived in 1996 by Co-Founders Jerold Ross and pianist Lee Dougherty Ross. As the Series continued to grow both artistically and in the number of people its programs reached, a dialog began with the Ringling Museum which resulted in the Artist Series of Sarasota being chosen as the first-named performance partner at the Historic Asolo Theater.
